Riley and I had a great lesson today. I must admit the last few weeks have felt as though we are not progressing together.

We are still struggling with our canter and I have slowly been losing my confidence which was fragile to begin with.

We will get there I know I had hoped it wouldn’t involve going backwards.

I do need though to remember how far we have come as it’s too easy to forget how much progression we have made.

And chill…Riley having a day off.

He was more alert when it came to having treats.

He had a visit today from my Aunty and her pony mad grand daughter and got lots of attention.

She took her yard duties seriously and was rather pleased to wash out Riley’s breakfast bowl and help me fill his haynet.

Riley and I hacked today. I must admit I wasn’t

Riley and I hacked today. I must admit I wasn’t feeling very well but I knew he needed to be ridden.

As soon as I arrived at the yard and saw his face over the stable door I immediately felt better.

It’s amazing how much that pony can lift me.

Horse Riding Lesson Tuesday

Riley and I had a really good lesson with Emma today. I am pleased to report success in cantering after feeling like I was going backwards.

Afterwards we had a hack. The plan was to walk but seeing looming grey clouds I thought a hasty return to the stable was needed, so trotting was thrown in too.

Riley and I had a fun lesson this morning with two

Riley and I had a fun lesson this morning with two other horses and riders.

We did poles and attempted a few canters. We did manage a little bit but I am struggling at the moment to get him to do it. Besides my position I think part of the problem is I’m not convincing enough.

Afterwards Riley and I went for a short hack and came across an apparently very scary hose pipe that isn’t normally there.

Riley didn’t want to go near and he took quite a bit of convincing as he tried to back up and turn away from said object.

On the way back to the stable we had to walk over it again so I decided marching him on was the answer, although he took the leg on to mean let’s run over it very quickly.

There are so many words I could use when it comes to Riley.

One of the things I love about him is his ‘cheeky’ character. It keeps me entertained on a daily basis.

Riley my dressage pony in the making is back.

Emma schooled him today and he was amazing. I watched on in awe as he did everything asked of him and had his work head on immediately. I felt an immense amount of pride.

As it was such a lovely morning I hacked him afterwards.

Manuel Paredes is a 25-year-old rider born in Seville. His whole life to date has been devoted to horses and his passion for horses, dressage and trying to achieve the very highest levels of performance have seen him move to the Netherlands to work at the van Silfhout stables for Alex vanSilfhout one of the top names in Dutch Grand Prix dressage and a huge figure in international dressage.
