Such a star 🌟

We had another lesson with Emma this morning. We worked on coming down the centre line and our twenty metre circles amongst other things.

Emma also had a canter on Riley. He still doesn’t understand the leg aid so it is more a case of pushing him into it.

Emma commented that he felt more supple than the last time she rode him which was good to hear.

On Sunday Riley and I went for a hack with someone else on the yard.

I have been wanting to go on another hack but wasn’t too keen on the idea of having to go on the road again. Well that’s putting it mildly I wasn’t looking forward to it at all!

We do have off road hacking close to the stables but it does involve some road work and I know it’s something I’m going to have to get used to.

Riley was a star and didn’t bat an eyelid at cars or cyclists although did have one random spook.

Horse Riding Lesson

We had another great lesson yesterday with a bit of a twist as Emma turned up with Franklin Balls.

I’ve never done the Franklin Method before and I must admit one if the exercises was quite tough and I found it difficult to stay balanced.

We did work without stirrups and lots of sitting trot.

We also went down a hole on our stirrups and amazingly I didn’t even feel as though I had, so much so that I had to double check I had lengthened them.

Has anyone else tried the Franklin Method?

Today Riley and I had another lesson with Emma.

Today Riley and I had another lesson with Emma.

Although instead of riding we lunged. Riley was rather naughty and made numerous attempts to avoid working and kept turning in.

So Emma decided to long rein instead. I wasn’t sure if Riley had ever done that before however he was really good and we are going to start incorporating it in his routine.

Emma is going to teach me how to do it myself next week, which did leave me with a slightly bemused look on my face. I’ve only just got used to lungeing with one line let alone two.

Horse Riding Lesson

I had another great lesson with Emma. I really look forward to the lessons and they are hard work. Riley and I are learning so much. One thing that I have discovered is that I have a weak left leg and it does make it tricky particularly when I’m doing a leg yield. (If anyone has any exercise recommendations I would be grateful).

Also, operation get Riley used to the clippers has commenced. I bought my first pair of clippers and after having Riley sedated last year I figured that it would be a slow process.

So for the last couple of day’s I’ve switched them on so he can get used to the noise. Day one he wasn’t at all happy although today he didn’t stamp his foot quite as much. I’ve also resorted to giving him a haynet as he is greedy and I knew this would be a helpful distraction.

Horse Riding Lesson Tuesday

May just have to become Monday as the lesson with my new instructor is on that day.

I enjoyed my lesson so much and I feel as though I’m learning so much. We did a leg yield exercise that I haven’t done before.

This morning I lunged Riley something that I haven’t done for months. I’m going to add that into his weekly routine.

On one rein he was very well behaved but on the other rein he was a challenge so to end the session on a high note I kept the circle smaller and we finished with a few circles without him trying to turn in.
