Another livery on our yard gave me this for Easter and it’s so true.

Normally chocolate wouldn’t last this long uneaten but on this occasion I’m going to admire it a bit longer.

Riley and I had a lesson today and one yesterday.

Riley and I had a lesson today and one yesterday.

Today we did poles which Emma informed me was to work on my steering (less rein!).

We had a canter and I am finding that when Emma says to canter I’m able to ask him and let him go.

We finished today’s lesson with a short hack, it was so windy but nothing bothered him at all today.

Yesterday we worked on our 20 metre circles and trying to make them actually round.

Emma schooled Riley today and had his brain working. I’m amazed how far he has come in the last few months. He certainly isn’t the same pony that arrived at the new yard.

Yesterday I had a lunge lesson as Emma has established that I rely on my reins too much and also I need to work on my seat.

I went for a run today, my first this year. I am ashamed to say that one of my New Years resolutions was to start running and it’s taken this long to get started!

Horse Riding Lesson Tuesday

I had a wonderful lesson today. We had a canter and I’m becoming less anxious about it before and during the lesson. On one rein I have a tendency to tilt forward and I can’t always keep him in canter so there is a lot to work on.

We did have a great trot though and Emma commented that I had him trotting the best she had ever seen from me, so there did feel as though was promise of a little step forward.

Afterwards I hacked him with the intention of doing the short route but the sun was shining and we were both so chilled I ended up going the longer route.

New shavings Saturday. Over the last year I have

New shavings Saturday.

Over the last year I have established a routine for mucking out and always put new shavings down on a Saturday.

I will top on other days if needed but definitely on Saturday.

I think I’ve become a bit particular with the stable and I’m not sure I could let anyone else do Riley’s bed! Although some may say fussy!

I know that Riley only cares about the haynet I put up before I’m finished.

Horse Riding Lesson Tuesday

It’s been a while since I had one of these as my riding routine has changed dramatically.

For the past couple of months, Emma, my instructor has generally schooled Riley on a Tuesday. Riley and I have had our lessons together on other days of the week however today I had a lesson with him.

As I didn’t ride much last week and then only hacking, I was feeling rather apprehensive about my lesson today as I knew I would be cantering.

So I tacked Riley up and headed to the manège to warm him up whilst waiting for Emma, all the time wondering why I put myself through this and thinking life would be so much easier if I took up knitting or another pastime.

Deep down I know that’s never going to happen as horses are in my soul and Riley means too much to me and I can’t stay in walk and trot forever. Plus I have been here before and overcome it, so I can do it again.

After my lesson, I said to Emma that cantering today wasn’t anywhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. I also realised that I push him to keep cantering despite thinking I’m nervous. I’m slightly perplexed about what to make of that!

We finished off the lesson with a little hack and as always lots of cuddles.

Had a fab hack with Riley yesterday. I rode him in the manège for about ten minutes, mainly as I hadn’t ridden him for a week and I wanted to do a bit of trotting and have a little refresher.

Emma schooled him today and he was an angel even though there was another horse in the manège who occasionally got a bit lively.

Riley has had an easier week than usual as unusual

Riley has had an easier week than usual as unusually both my coach Emma and myself were ill.

I’m sure he didn’t mind the unplanned days off.

Yesterday I hacked and today Emma schooled him.

It’s such a joy to see him coming on all the time. My canter is also slowly coming on, not so much in style but coming from a place of being too scared to do it at all I feel as though I’m progressing.

I’m not sure if this has been working but I have been telling myself that in a whole day five minutes is not much to have to step outside of my comfort zone.

Tomorrow I’m planning to hack.
